In 2016, Uteco Converting S.p.A., a leading producer of diverse flexible packaging applications for the printing and converting industry – headquartered in Italy – and ebeam Technologies began a strong and far reaching partnership. Uteco was looking to differentiate their product line to gain a competitive edge on the market. In ebeam, they found a hands-on and supportive partner to help realize their ambitions, whose innovative technology was easy to integrate into their existing engineering. Together, the Uteco and ebeam Technologies are addressing some of the printing and converting industry’s greatest challenges and demands.
ebeam (EB) technology cures inks, coatings and adhesives. In-line EB curing for package printing ensures high throughput, is energy efficient, and is achieved without the use of chemicals. Uteco embraced EB curing technology in two of their product lines:
CI-Flexo (The Onyx XS EcoOne) – the first product of Uteco and ebeam’s partnership – is an integrated and compact EB CI-Flexo machine that combines printing, laminating, curing and multi-reel slitting steps in a single and highly efficient process.
Digital (GAIA) – the first of Uteco’s ventures into narrow-web – is an industrial end-to-end inkjet production line equipped with an ebeam Compact 80/400 curing station, enabling a higher degree of cure, durability, a higher gloss finish and the ability to cure all colors.
The Onyx XS EcoOne made its debut at drupa 2016 in Münich, and was a main attraction of Uteco’s exhibition. Find out more by reading the press release here
. Following that successful collaboration, the industry leaders, together with INX Digital International unveiled GAIA at Labelexpo Europe 2017 in Brussels, where the ebeam Compact 80/400 received the Label Industry Sustainability Award – a proud moment shared by the partners. ebeam Technologies develops solutions that provide cost reduction and productivity gains that their partners can pass on to their customers. Because Uteco recognizes the opportunities that ebeam allows in food packaging, they can offer energy efficient printing lines with high throughput and easy maintenance and serviceability to packaging printers who can realize profitable margins due to attractive product prices, as well as attract brand owners looking to maintain their sustainability goals and offer unique products.
Early adopters are valuable to any company with novel solutions. For ebeam, Uteco is one of the first followers that will help boost the development of ebeam solutions for print and packaging production. In addition to the joint technology development of innovative solutions for integrating ebeam curing into flexographic, laminating and coating processes as well as digital inkjet printing lines, and exploring new applications for challenging substrates, the two companies also combine their go-to-market strategy to deliver the best service and quality to end-users.
“We are delighted to be partnering with ebeam Technologies to develop new concepts and solutions for the analogue and digital printing world. Brand owners looking for ways to differentiate their product and eliminate challenges […] should definitely consider what EB solutions can offer.”
