ebeam firsts for food safety and packaging efficiency at drupa 2016

This is the first drupa since the acquisition of pumped electron beam specialist and longtime drupa attendee PCT Engineered Systems. We are delighted to launch an entirely new product that introduces food safe EB-curing to inkjet printers, and to demonstrate four commercially available ebeam systems and new demo’s with our partners throughout the vast trade fair.

We’re seeing companies increasingly looking for ways to differentiate their product and eliminate challenges such as the need for UV photoinitiators in their packaging. At drupa, we plan to unveil new ebeam technology for product individualization and demonstrate its benefits with four customer demonstrations. We see this as an innovative solution to a major problem, and we’re only just scratching the surface of what will be achievable.

The new ebeam Compact, due to be launched at the show, enables the production of inkjet-printed, personalized food packaging using ebeam curing. This fits inside an inkjet printer machine footprint, making it possible to use photoinitiator-free inks for digital printing. Our on-stand demonstration will show how ebeam Compact-enabled inkjet printers can offer food brands variable printing, enabling short runs for market testing and personalization.

We’re continuing our progress towards food-safe ebeam packaging with our partner OMET, who will demonstrate a new, wide-web (85cm) offset process that harnesses ebeam technology to offer photoinitiator-free food safe packaging.

In another industry first, our technology partner, UTECO, will demonstrate a new process that combines printing, laminating, and curing steps in a single, highly efficient process that improves throughput and eliminates the need for lengthy drying and storage before conversion.
