ONYX XS ECO ONE – The new frontier in EB ink curing
At drupa 2016, we unveiled our first joint innovation with one of our printing industry partners, Uteco Converting – the eco-friendly ONYX XS ECO ONE, a compact 8C-CI flexo press, configured with inline ebeam flexo curing for sustainable energy curing
The ECO ONE is a brand new concept that incorporates printing, laminating, curing and multi-reel slitting in-line, before automatic rewinding and automatic unloading for the final reels. It significantly increases efficiency in the ink drying process and improves throughput as, thanks to electron beam (ebeam) curing, there is no longer a need for lengthy drying and storage before conversion.
The ebeam process also offers printers additional benefits in terms of energy input and wastage. Our ebeam products require a lot less energy to run than traditional heat drying production techniques, allowing the ECO ONE to pass considerable savings on to packaging producers and converters. The inks used for ebeam curing are also more eco-friendly, as they don’t release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) during the curing process.
The ECO ONE therefore represents a fantastic opportunity for printers and converters to explore faster routes to market or even new markets, whilst providing savings on processing and waste management that can allow for further investment in the wider business.
As a leading producer of diverse flexible packaging applications for the printing and converting industry, we’re delighted to be working alongside Uteco Converting to develop innovative solutions to solve today’s print industry challenges. The ECO ONE marks only the beginning of our journey with Uteco and we hope to recreate this success across our growing network of print industry partners. We believe that together we can deliver sustainable energy curing solutions to support all print, packaging and converting needs now and in the future.
Uteco Converting will be demonstrating the ONYX XS ECO ONE-station central impression (CI) flexo press at the ECO ONE Open Day, at Uteco’s Converdrome, in Verona, Italy, on Thursday 6th July 2017.
